A Concrete Curtain

A Concrete Curtain

This site is all about the Berlin Wall from its creation to it’s destruction. The Berlin Wall went up on August 13th, 1961 but it all started with the blockade of 1948. After the war, Germany was divided into four sections and each had a commander in chief, the four of them then made the Control Council.

“From November 27, 1958, ten years after the blockade, Berlin was the scene of another international crisis when Nikita Khrushchev issued an ultimatum to the three western powers, giving them six months to turn West Berlin into a ‘demilitarized free city ‘, failing which he would sign a separate peace treaty with East Germany. This ultimatum marked the start of a long crisis which came to a head and to an end with the building of the Wall.”

The text of this site is so very rich in detail, and depth that I got lost in reading until I had read the whole thing. It is an extremely thorough depiction of both how the wall came to be, and what life was like living behind it as well as, how it’s end came about. You can read about how small sectors where entirely cut off from anything like the American and the British enclaves.

Well put together, in haunting and accurate preciseness. This site is a look into a history not so long past. An enthralling read that will keep your attention with interesting facts.

Why don’t you find out how a blockade became a wall…
