Snowflakes and Snow Crystals

Snowflakes and Snow Crystals

“This site is all about snow crystals and snowflakes—what they are, where they come from, and just how these remarkably complex and beautiful structures are created, quite literally, out of thin air.”

Here you can learn all about natural snowflakes like the kind that end up in your backyard, but you can also learn all about designer snowflakes which are man made.

In the Natural Section there are several different sections that are neat. Like the Guide to Snowflakes will take you through all the natural forms, then there is Unusual Forms, which goes through nifty ones like twelve sided snowflakes and triangular one. (There are even pictures so you can see what they’re talking about.)

The Designer Section talks about how the author went about growing snowflakes and is really fascinating. You can even watch the progress through the section from better to best as their experiments went on. Then you can check out Snowflake Movies to watch the snowflake grow.

This site is fascinating, and for me to tell you all about will ruin the thrill of discovery not to mention take up another five paragraphs or so.

Don’t give this one the cold shoulder.
