How Do I Stop Windows 8 From Timing Out?

Harold writes:

I have Win.8 OS.How do you stop the computer from going back to the start screen and having to enter my password after 1 to 2 min. of inactivity on another screen? Ex: e-mail It times out too quick.

That can be pretty annoying, Harold. Fortunately, it’s easy to fix. First of all, let’s open up that incredibly useful Search Charm and select Settings, then type in “lock the computer.”

Select Lock the computer when I leave it alone for a period of time from the results.

This window will open.

In the Wait box, you can adjust the time, allowing yourself more time before you go to a screensaver.

You can also choose whether or not you are required to log on when the computer resumes.

You can also change your screen saver or adjust your power settings from this window.

When you’re happy with the changes, make sure to click Apply

  1. This solution does not work for me. I have the Wait value set to 40 minutes but it still times out in 5. Also, I find the check box for “on resume, display logon screen” is not editable. Other suggestions?
