Why Can’t I Send E-mail?

Betty from Rochester, NY writes:

I can receive my email but can’t send any out.  I have Windows 7 and 374GB available on my hard drive.  I have checked my internet and modem with my internet provider and it is supposed to be ok. thank-u for any help u can provide.

If you can receive but not send e-mail, it means something is wrong with your outgoing server (SMTP) settings. It can be something as simple as typo in the address. I detailed how a single misplaced dot kept me from sending messages for months in this article.

Go to the account section of your e-mail client and check those outgoing server settings to make sure they are correct. If you aren’t sure what they should be, you should be able to look them up on your Internet provider’s website or by calling customer service.

  1. If Betty is using Roadrunner, they have changed their outgoing server. She needs to call TWC Tech Support at 585-756-BEEP. They will walk her thru the fix
