My Toshiba Laptop Keeps Dropping My WiFi Connection

Bette writes

I am wondering if your readers or techies can tell me if there are any noteworthy problems with their Toshiba laptop L75D-A7283, Win 8. My husband bought a new one a few months ago and has had it back to the store 2 times, with no help given. Maybe a lemon, or maybe dropped. It won’t stay connected to our Wi-Fi, or our printer, lots of problems, slow etc.

Bette, you are not alone in having this issue with that particular model of Toshiba laptop. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find any clear-cut solution to the problem.  Anytime something like a wall gets between the laptop and router, the WiFi connection is dropped. You can click here for more on the problem.

I’d suggest purchasing a USB Wireless LAN adapter for your laptop, that should enable you to pick up your WiFi signal.

Hopefully this will help with the issue.

  1. Go into your network settings. Control panel again.. Mouse to the bottom-right, ‘Search’ again. This time type “Control panel” and click the result. From here we want “Network and Internet” and then “Network and Sharing Center” and from there “Change adapter settings” (It’s on the left hand menubar)

Right click your wifi adapter -> click Properties -> click Configure -> click Power Management

Uncheck the box “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. That should do the job.

Worked so far, anyway.. i hope this will help you from here . thanks

      1. Beware of fraudulent activity and call direct on toll free for Toshiba Support 1-800-585-2494.

      1. So far this is working! Thanks! I haven’t tried it in all rooms yet…! I have been trying to find a solution to this problem for almost a year!

    1. I have the exact same issue . . . there is no sound coming from the speaker set.

Mostly this problem is happening in windows 10 and it happening after updating windows but sometimes it happens due to virus which corrupt drivers of laptop. Windows update install bad driver or corrupt driver also. You can get driver support from here http://goo.gl/tlqphc and beware of fraudulent activity.

  2. same problem here, like it doesn’t have wifi, and can only be connected wired! Ugh, I’m going to try this and see if it repairs the issue

  3. Thank you Peter!

Also, I had to change the power settings from BALANCED to HIGH PERFORMANCE. It works like a charm!

  4. Hey Emily, where can the power settings be found in a Toshiba laptop? I went to control panel- hardware and software- power options but i only have balanced and eco options here. TIA!

  5. Thank you Peter I have have this problem for 3 months now. I am a 69 year old great grandmother and not at all technical minded. My family said to contact my provider (I did not want to do as I can’t always understand what they say.)But I followed your advise and its working brilliantly now. Thank you so much.

  6. Thanks Peter!

You are a good man paying it forward! This has been bothering my wife and I for a long time, endlessly restarting wifi, etc.

For anyone else still with win8, you can easily get to the early control panel step by hovering mouse off right edge of monitor to bring up the gray box/ bar.

  7. I have satellite l50-B-2c8, at the moment my problem seems to be solved.

    My experiences:
1, Factory reset – BIOS (reset defaults) – wifi was hardware disabled – there is no other option to enable it – no phisical switch button like in the case of vaio in a stupid place. Installing ubuntu is a problem, on windows propably not…

    2, Windows 8.1/Windows 10 same problem
Windows 10 is better but same idiotic problem.

As Peter said it’s related to the power saver option – (one was mentioned, second one can be reached through the battery icon)

    Microsoft:
1, If i have started the download before or even browsing, why you close the connection, it fail my download and stop my page being loaded???
2, If i’m on power and it was set to no saver option, and on battery was set to saver option, why it behaves that i’m on battery???

So i have mentioned the solution in the second point.:)

  8. Im not sure what is wrong with mine but this doesnt fix it…it kepps telling me my connection is limited and then not every 15 seconds…..the wifi works on every other computer in the house so i realy dont know whats wrong

  9. same problem ‘tears out hair’ with a TOSHIBA LAPTOP C50D, drops connection every time….been back for checkup..nothing wrong they say..,been to computer shop..nothing wrong, new modem, still drops…took it back to factory setting still the same…it drops every thing after about 10 t0 15mins, while in for checkup someone downloaded a E T L file? today its trying to download 161 updates? I kid you not,3hrs….. now it says unable to complete updates..undoing changes, that was over 3 hours ago..I give up…..totally useless

  10. Hi all,

I am facing the exact same problem, Toshiba Model: L50-B-1NZ, WiFi keeps getting disconnected even though the WiFi bar shows as it it’s connected. Every time I disconnect and re-connect to get net access. This issue is only with Toshiba as I also have an HP and old Acer where there is no such problem. Toshiba technical team gave some solution but the problem hasn’t gone away. They asked to contact their software team (This is despite having an extended warranty contract on hardware). The software guys (Toshiba) will only help with a charge.

This is really Toshiba’s problem and they need to take responsibility for it. For now I am going to try Peter’s suggestion and see if it works.

Good to see a lot of helpful comments.

    Thanks.

  11. I have a 2015 Toshiba Satellite laptop model E55-A5114, purchased about 13 April 2015. It came loaded with Windows 8.0/8.1 upgrade. About 6 months after purchased it began crashing the Internet connection. I installed Windows 8.1 upgrade as recommended by Microsoft. the problem continued so I installed Windows 10 upgrade. It was okay for about a month then problems began again. Regular Windows crash as well as Internet crash. I noticed that as I am on the Internet, the Home-Toshiba bar for the Internet runs the blue revolving circle changing from the Toshiba symbol. The Internet usually crashes at that time. The connection ALWAYS crashes when that starts. The hard drive was reformatted and full Windows 10 and updates were installed. I regularly update Toshiba and Windows. The blue circle still runs and the computer still crashes. I have noticed that videos run in the background because I can hear the audio. I believe the problem is that Toshiba is setup to run their Internet stuff in the background causing the computer to crash. Sometimes too much runs on computer sites and causes crashes. This has been a problem for slow CPU computers for years. My Toshiba has the Intel i5 cpu with 6 GB RAM. Since 2005 I have recommended Toshiba computers to my friends. Now I don’t. As I type this, the mouse is running inconsistently. The mouse is less that one week old. The old one worked and the next moment it didn’t ever work again, even with two new batteries. This weekend there will be a new laptop in my house. The hard drive crashed two weeks ago so now it has a new one.

  12. I purchased a Toshiba C55 B5100 almost a year ago and it has been total junk, dropping my wifi connection constantly, plus many other problems that I won’t get into. I am one paycheck away from trashing this headache for good. The worse laptop I have ever owned, hands down.

  13. Did anyone discover a solution for this problem? All of our other computers and devices remain connected to our wifi perfectly, but our Toshiba laptop loses its connection every few minutes. It’s frustrating!

  14. We have the same issue….will only stay connected for a few minutes. Our model is a Satellite L75-B. Any resolution?

  15. I have the same problem with my Toshiba L-305D, I like toshiba, but this is not acceptable. it’s wifi connection is useless. it connects for a few seconds and then drops.

  16. Toshiba now = junk as far as I’m concerned. Bought my Satellite laptop 5 years ago and wifi just started acting up seriously. NEVER TOSHIBA AGAIN!

  17. Toshiba C55-B5298, constantly losing internet function. Says I am connected but sites will stop working or work very slow, also can’t attach pictures to email sometimes, yahoo mail says no internet connection, have to do diagnostic all the time and it usually resets wireless network adapter, then works fine for a while. Gets frustrating! I am 12 feet max from the wireless modem, nothing in between. I am almost considering dropping the wireless and go back to the wires! This is useless sometimes! Anyone find any solution for this issue with toshiba?

  18. Is everyone using the Comcast Xfinity? i have problems with s signal drops from Comcast Free wifi service interfering with my home wifi.

  19. Dropped connections are a pain !

My Toshiba Satellite L75-C7250 started dropping connections a few months ago and I finally fount a partial solution. Don’t use “SLEEP MODE” or let the display or hard drive shut down.

Now instead of connection drops several times a day, it only happens after I boot-up.

    Hope this helps.

  20. Addendum to my previous message (04-11-17 don’t use “SLEEP MODE.”

    1. Open Device Manager to Network Adapters.
    2. Find your wireless LAN & click Properties.
    3. Under Power Management, uncheck “Allow computer to turn off this device.”
    4. Under Advanced, Enable 802.11d

This solved my drop problem permanently without affecting load speed. My broadban is 3 megs; if yours is faster the 802.11d might slow downloads.
