Welcome to the American Verse Project! This electronic archive of American poetry from pre-1920 is brought to you by the University of Michigan Humanities Text Initiative (HTI) and the University of Michigan Press.

I found this while looking through a database list, and decided it looked really cool after poking around it a bit, so I thought I’d share it with all of you.

When you arrive at the site, you’ll find a brief explanation of the site, and instructions for different ways to search the verse database.

All of the poetry that is being collected is searchable in multiple ways which is really neat. I liked to search through the Word Index which allows you to search by unique words. It reminds me of using a concordance to search through Shakespeare.

My next favorite way to search through the database is with the Browse American Verse Texts. This way was very conducive to searching without a keyword. You can just click through the entries by Title, and pick whatever strikes your fancy.

This is such a neat resource of poetry, I hope you’ll check it out today!
