Jesse, I’m not sure where you got the idea that Windows 10 isn’t designed for using with a mouse. The system is designed specifically to be mouse-friendly in response to complaints that Windows 8 was not. As a daily Windows 10 user, I can tell you that it works just fine with a mouse in a desktop environment.
However, the operating system is also designed to work with tablets and smartphones. It can sense which type of device you’re using and adjust itself accordingly. I have a Surface tablet with a detachable keyboard. With the keyboard attached, it operates in desktop mode. But when I detach the keyboard it gives me the option of using tablet mode.
Personally, I don’t think that sliding your finger around is any different than sliding a mouse pointer around. It just takes some getting used to.

And sure I know Cynthia is Correct > Though in all having both workings together are an ADVANTAGE considering all the slight advantages differences of each e.g. mouse pointer & wheel scroll adjustment and also pressing mouse wheel in for auto-scroll including the touch-screen hand swiping it can back/forth-track auto-scrolling while its pacing thru only with ‘Word-Pad-doc’ and touch screen has slight tap speed advantage over a 1-2 mouse clicks – Though 1 disadvantage is using up USB port, but are reclaimed by using a hub or better a wireless blue tooth! And finally in rare circumstances Laptop touchpads can include a back/forth-tracking-sliders from auto-scrolling any type of document & having such model back in year 2000 was an extremely rare advantage! For page-down touching on Surface tablet tap below document scroll bar – And for an I-pad that’s a disadvantage with NO scroll-bar, mouse connection or cover keyboard that allows that! And also other MAJOR missed advantages after the iOS 9.4.1 update… And they don’t care for upgrade themselves-Z-Z-Z! <
I have said this before, but I’ll repeat it: I have a minimal brain dysfunction, similar to dyslexia, which makes it so far impossible for me to learn finger-sliding garbage. Also, in give or take 30 years of trying, I have never learned to operate a mouse. I can use a touch pad, a trackball or the number pad accessibility option. Plus, the rodent pointer, whatever is driving it, will not deposit one’s lunch on the screen, or anyone’s skin oil, or any other undesirable substances. Screens are difficult to clean. Other peripherals are not. It’s not accurate to say every “improvement” is “progress” for everyone.

stop their support for some version’s of windows in the not to distant future {I like their update} –I think XP-is the designated one to be dumped. Not sure though. I’m asking

Jesse: Support for Microsoft OS systems lasts for 10 years from the time they are released to public. Support to XP ended nearly 2 years ago in 2014. Support for Vista goes until next spring, support for Windows 7 until 2020, Windows 8.1 until 2023 and Windows 10 at least until 2025.
As a windows 10 user on my Dell All-in-one with a touch screen I hate using the touch but Win-10 thinks it’s a tablet and turns on touch. I have to manually turn it off. Not so much for me but if a cat goes near the screen! Well lets just say the computer becomes unusable (and I think becomes evil). So I turn off the touch and use mouse and keyboard. Windows 10 is so freakin’ awesome!
I agree that sliding your finger all over a touch screen is not any fun nor is it very sanitary. Who wants to try and read text ,etc. through a bunch of greasy finger prints? Not me!

I’m with those who would not like a touch screen and still have Windows 7. I can’t imagine having to move your arms to constantly touch the screen to do things……that, to me, would be totally annoying. I don’t even know how my husband likes using 2 fingers to operate his laptop……..another thing that would annoy me. Give me a MOUSE!
