A lot of people like to use Facebook messaging while viewing Facebook on their browser. But if you aren’t into messaging or just don’t want to chat right now, that sidebar takes up a lot of screen real estate.
To hide the Chat sidebar, click the little gear icon at the bottom.
Choose Hide Sidebar to close the sidebar.
The sidebar will then disappear.
You can control other things about chat from that gear icon as well. If you don’t want to hear sounds of see a lot of stickers in your feed, you can just turn them off. Or turn off the option for voice and video calls if you don’t want to deal with them right now.
If you have multiple chat tabs open like this:
You can choose to collapse or close the windows. Collapse them and they’ll be at the bottom of the page.
And, if you don’t want to be bothered with chatting, you can choose to turn it off completely.
If there’s just one chat window open and you want it closed, just click the bar at the top of the Window to minimize or the X to close.
