Welcome to Apron Strings and Kitchen Sinks; a National Agriculture Library digital exhibit on the Bureau of Home Economics.

When you arrive at the site, you’ll find several navigation options. You can click play on the slideshow and then click any of the images to enter one of the five exhibits. You can click the read more link and head over to the About section. Or you can use the navigation menu at the top of the page that offers links to About, Browse the Exhibits, and the History of the Bureau sections.

I recommend starting on the About page because it explains what is showcased in this exhibit. Then pick whichever method you like back to explore the content of the five exhibits the site offers. They are Bureau of Home Economics, Kitchen and Farmhouse Design Plans, Self-Help Children’s Clothing and Standardized Sizing, Sewing and Pattern Design, and USDA Time-Use Studies.

I think it’s really cool to look at the way things used to be designed for home economics! Go check it out for yourself today!
