Amazon has added 6 brand new devices that use the Alexa virtual assistant just in time for your early Christmas shopping.
Alexa is a virtual assistant much like the Google Assistant, Windows 10’s Cortana, and Apple’s Siri. Virtual assistants can do things like add appointments, control smart home devices, look things up online for you. Many of them have a lower price than previous models.
Today, we’ll put the spotlight on the $99 2nd Generation Echo.
The Echo is a wireless Dolby speaker that can play tunes from Amazon music and other music services like Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Spotify, and Sirius XM You can also listen to audiobooks from audible and streaming via Bluetooth from your mobile device. It will even control music on compatible devices in other rooms. You can even order or reorder select items from Amazon. This seems like a great option for those with mobility issues or vision limitations.
The device is voice activated, so you can just speak and tell it to launch the music app and what tunes to play. You can make calls, set alarms, check news, create lists, and control your lights and thermostat if you have smart home devices.
You can also send hands-free messages and make phone calls anywhere in the U.S., Mexico, or Canada. It’s available for pre-order now and comes in Charcol, Heather Gray, Oak, Sandstone, Silver, and Walnut. It connects to both WiFi and Bluetooth and comes with a 1-year limited warranty and service.
If you click here to head on over to Amazon, you can watch a video and get a lot more details. Our site is an Amazon associate, so if you do buy the Echo or anything else after clicking on that link, we will receive a few pennies from the purchase.
I’ll check out the other new devices next week.
