Five Books

If you enjoy reading, you’ll want to check out Five Books.

This thoughtful site offers short lists (five books long) of the best books in a seemingly endless number of categories.

The site asks leaders in a particular field to make book recommendations in that area. Not only will you find classic and modern novels, but suggestions for the best books on history, philosophy, and art.

Not only is it a great place to discover new books for yourself, it’s a great place to get gift ideas. On the landing page the day I wrote this article was a list of the best novels of 2017, the best books for tweens, and the best picture books.

When you go to the page, you can choose to select a random interview and find out where the site takes you. When I chose random, the result was 5 literary works on volcanoes recommended by journalist Simon Winchester. His picks included Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne and The Last Days of Pompeii.

You can select a category of interest at the top of the page. I chose Fiction and found lists of forgotten classics, the best books about zombies, the best books of George Eliot, the best historical literature, the best contemporary American poets, and more.

Along with each list is a thoughtful interview with the person who picked them about why the books were selected.

You’ll also find links that take you to Amazon to purchase the books. I could kill a lot of time on this site.
