I’ve had several inquiries about changing the normal template in Microsoft Word. The normal template is the default document that is created whenever you start a new document in Word. Here are the steps to make it happen in Office 2010, 2013, and 2016.

Open Word and click the File tab at the top.

Choose Open. Then select This PC.

Go to C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.

Note: Editor is my username on this PC.  This looks complicated, but it’s just a matter of clicking on some things. It takes seconds.

Scroll down and select the Normal template. Choose Open.

The Normal template will open. Make any changes that you want to spacing, indentation, font, etc…

Then click the File tab again and choose Save.

When you open a new document, the changes you made will now be the default.
