Ever watched a moving on your HDTV and thought the picture quality looked more like an old soap opera than a new movie?  It turns out there’s a setting on some TV that can make films look like they’re an old videotape from the 1980s.

It’s all due to a setting on TVs called motion-blurring, motion estimation, motion-compensation – depending on the TV.  Different brands give this feature different names.

To adjust it, you’ll want to look under the Picture settings or Settings option for your TV.

Under motion smoothing, you should see adjustments for judder and clarity. You’ll want to make sure to disable both of these options.  You should also turn off any LED motion functions as well.

Try it and see if there’s a difference. If you don’t think the picture looks better, you can always go back to the previous settings.
