Clear the Safari cache

Is your Safari browser running slow, refusing to load sites, or acting just plain wonky? You may need to clear the cache.

You can do it with a keyboard shortcut by pressing Command + Option + E.

But I have to admit that it makes me a little nervous because I don’t see a menu the way you do when you use the keyboard shortcut, there’s no real acknowledgment that it works. And I like to see a little reaction to my keystrokes. So, I’m gong to show you the long way around.

Start by opening Safari, clicking the Safari menu at the top left, and choosing Preferences from the drop-down menu.

Click the Advanced tab.

Tick the Show Develop menu in menu bar box at the bottom of the Advanced menu.

The Develop menu now shows at the top the Safari page between Bookmarks and Window.

Click to pull up the drop-down menu. Then select Empty Caches.
