A reader has a question about Facebook Messenger.
“Can you save messages in Messenger? If so how do you do it?”
The good news is that your Facebook messages don’t go away. They all stay there in Messenger (unless the person you were corresponding with deletes their end of the conversation.)
You can find them by scrolling back – which admittedly takes forever. Or you can use the search feature to search by words or phrases that were mentioned in the message.
If you’re using the Messenger app, open the conversation you want to search for the message in and look for the search box at the top of the page.
Type in a word or phrase from the conversation and tap the magnifying glass. Search results will display with the word highlighted.
At the top, you’ll see the number of times the word occurs. You can navigate through the messages containing the word by tapping the arrow.
Of course, those messages are only available as long as your Facebook account is active.
If you wish to save text outside of the app, you can always take a screenshot. Or press down on the message to copy the text. Then paste the text in a document.
Tomorrow, I’ll show you how to search your messages using a browser.
