Hate the Windows 11Mail app? Need an alternative to Live Mail now that Microsoft no longer supports the program? Don’t need all the features or expense of Outlook? I’ve got a great alternative that also happens to be free: Mozilla Thunderbird. Brought to you by the folks who developed Firefox, this email client has more features than the ultra-simplistic Mail app, but not so many options that you might get dizzy, like Outlook. Plus it works with all supported version of Windows and Mac. It even works with Linux systems. Since it’s an email client, you can use it with any email provider.

Then select Free Download.
You can either run the file or save it to your downloads, then launch later by clicking on it.
You can choose between standard and custom installation. I’d suggest standard unless you’re aware of some specific need. Also, this is where you can choose to make Thunderbird your default email client. If you aren’t sure yet if you want to use Thunderbird as your go-to program, uncheck this. You can always set it as the default later.
The installation will take a few minutes.
When the installation if over, just click Finish. If you want to open Thunderbird, make sure to check the box next to Launch Now.

I have used Thunderbird for at 10 years. It is so superior to gmail & yahoo. It is very flexible & easy to use.
I’m using three different emails! Gmail, Yahoo and Thunderbird. Yahoo I’ve had forever, (which dates back to ’95). Gmail I love, that’s the one I use the most. I got Thunderbird because of the Stationary that Cloudeight provides for free but mainly I use it because I can send a bunch of gifs or jpgs by placing them directly on the page, in the order I want, and place a comment underneath if I want – and then send these out in an email to friends who love getting them! I can’t do this in Gmail, and haven’t even tried it in Yahoo once I started using Thunderbird. So each email is slightly different, each has it’s own good points and bad points. I love the way all three are hooked together by Gmail so no matter which email I’m in at a time, I get the same listings of sent, draft or deleted emails. Very convenient!
Hi Cyn, I have an earlier version of TBird that I’ve used for years, I downloaded the new version last week but it doesn’t integrate the folders etc that I have set up in the old version. I don’t want to loose as that data. Is there a way to move it from the old program to the new and still in tact?
