Did you know that Windows comes with a free, built-in Voice Recorder app? Here’s how to use it. Start by typing Voice Recorder into the Start box and clicking on the result.
You’ll need to give permission for the app to access your microphone. Obviously, you’ll need a microphone to use the voice recorder. Most laptops and tablets have one built it. For a desktop, you’ll probably have to plug in a microphone.
Click the microphone icon to get started.
The recording will start. Press the stop button when you’re finished.
Recordings will show up in a panel on the left. Click on a recording to select it.
Press the Play button to play.
Just below the timeline, you’ll see icons for your options with the recording.
Click the Trim icon to adjust the length of the recording.
Pull the handles to adjust the beginning and end of the audio clip.
Then click the Save icon.
You can choose to save over the original file or update the copy.
To rename the file, click the Rename icon.
Or right-click on the file in the panel on the left. You can also choose to share the file or go to its file location.
Click the three-dot menu icon at the bottom right for more options including the ability to make adjustments to the microphone settings.
By default, your recording will be saved in your Documents folder in the Sound Recordings file.
