Word Immersive Reader

If you have a long Word document to read, consider checking out the Immersive Reader mode in Office 365. It changes the way words are displayed and will even read along with you to help increase your speed and enable you to pay better attention. Let’s check out how to use it. Open your Word document and then click on the View tab.

Then click on Immersive Reader.

Your view will switch from this:

To this:

Click on Read Aloud and Word will read the document outside and highlight the words as it reads them.

Here’s how that looks.

Use the control to the right to stop the reading aloud or go forward and back in the document.

Click on the Settings icon to control the reading speed or to change the voice.

You’ll also be able to control the width of the column, page color, and text spacing.

Use Line Focus to highlight either one, three, or five lines at a time.

Click on Syllables and you’ll be able to see the breaks between syllables.

You can click on your document and make any changes necessary while in this mode, so it’s a great tool for editing.  Just click the ribbon at the top to access any Word tools you need. To close it, click on Close Immersive Reader.
