Fix Moving Icons On Restart

If your desktop icons move around every single time you restart your Windows PC, the normal fix is to just change your view settings. (You can read how to do that here.) If that simple change doesn’t take care of the problem, you may need to get creative and delete the Icon File.

Start by pressing the Windows key + R to bring up the Run box. Then type  %userprofile% and click on OK.

The User Folder will open.

Click the View tab.

Then tick the box next to Hidden items at the right.

Click on the App Data folder to open.

Open the Local folder.

Scroll down to the file called IconCache. Delete it. It should be towards the bottom of the list.

Arrange the desktop icons in your preferred manner and restart the computer.
