Will My Fonts Load Automatically?

A reader has a question about fonts:

“I am working my way around to ordering MSOffice 2019 (for my own computer).  I don’t want to buy a subscription.  And, I’m not a big fan of working online.  Yeah, I know I’m late.

Saw your recent articles about fonts.  Frankly, I have way too many and need to clean out those that come from different artists/programs but appear essentially the same.  Don’t know about you, but getting around to the housekeeping can fail to work its way to the top of the list for long periods of time.

Among articles are those showing fonts available from cloud, including those from MS available to Word users.  Trust me, I don’t need any at the moment.

When I get around to purchasing/installing the new version(s), are my existing fonts, matching to my many years of documents, automatically going to install and be preserved?  Or will I need to reinstall them?  If reinstallation will be necessary, do you happen to know a quick and dirty method?”

Will fonts automatically load when you update to a new version of Word?

Your newly installed Office program should automatically recognize the fonts installed on your computer. (I say should because every once in a while, there’s a font that doesn’t get along with a particular program) but you shouldn’t have a problem.

You’re absolutely right about font housecleaning. If you collect them, like I tend to do, it’s easy to end up with a bunch of unnecessary files on your computer.

It’s also a good time to remind folks that when you switch computers, you need to copy any additional fonts you’ve purchased or download to your new computer.

  1. I would like to know how to make a font the default font in my various documents, especially Ecel.
