Has someone else gained access to your Facebook account? It happened to a relative of mine the other day, so I decided to give you a quick tutorial on what to do if someone takes control of your account.
First, let’s talk about the difference between an account being hacked or cloned. When I say hacked, I mean that someone has accessed your Facebook account. That’s not the same as when someone creates another account using your name. Click here to learn the difference between being hacked and cloned.
If someone has actually gotten into your account, your first step is to change the password. However, if that person has already changed the account and you can’t access it, you need to contact Facebook ASAP to attempt to get your account back. Fortunately, it’s a fairly straightforward process.

You’ll open this helpful wizard that walks you step-by-step through retrieving your account. You can also report an issue happening with a friend.

You’ll answer a few questions and Facebook will advise you on what to do next.

If you can still access the phone number or email connected with the account, Facebook can retrieve your account that way. If not, you may have to provide identification. My relative was able to retrieve his account in just an hour or two.
Word of caution, only provide this information if you initiate the interaction by going to Facebook Help. Don’t respond to random emails or messages saying that Facebook needs the info.
