AutoShape Defaults
When you use MS Office Suite’s drawing tools and create AutoShapes, do you find yourself changing colors and / or lines to the same setup over and over?
If you, let’s say, find that you’re changing the fill color to yellow and selecting a double line for the outline of several different shapes, I bet you’re tired of repeating your work.
I know I get tired of it!
So, this question comes to mind: Is there a way to get the program to just draw the new objects with all that stuff preset?
To be truthful, the answer is yes and no.
For the first shape you draw, no.
You need to draw the first shape and make your changes. Go ahead, fill it with color and give it a blue dashed outline that’s a six point in thickness. Make it just the way you need it.
Now, if these are also the settings you’ll want for other AutoShapes you’re drawing in this file, this is where the “yes” part of the answer comes into play.
To set the AutoShape defaults for this particular file, right click on the shape.
From the menu that pops open, select the Set AutoShape Defaults choice.
Now, draw another shape.
Do you see it?
All your colors and lines are already changed to meet your needs.
Yeah!
Oh, and don’t worry, the defaults only apply to that file. In another file, it’s right back to the old standby of no fill color with a thin black outline. In other words, the defaults are file specific, not program specific.
“Semi-permanent” defaults: useful but not repeatedly annoying.
