This is a site that provides an interesting take on the English language, from a British viewpoint of Michael Quinion. Not only will you discover more about the English language here, you will also learn about fascinating tidbits of the history behind the words in the English language.
On the main page, you will find, in the center of the page, several sections: New from the Newsletter This Week, Randomly Chosen, Recently Added Pages, The Next Web site Update, Technical Information and to the right of that, Search the Site, Recently Noted and Last Week’s Top Ten Viewed Pages. On the right, you’ll find the side menu that provides further navigation into the site.
The New from the Newsletter This Week and Randomly Chosen sections highlight words that have come from the newsletter or had been randomly chosen to grace the main page. You get several words in the New from the Newsletter area and just one in the Randomly Chosen.
Recently Added Pages is a just a listing of words that have been added in the last update. Just click the word you’d like to learn more about and you’ll be whisked to its article.
To get into more of the articles, head over to the side menu and click Articles. Then just select the article you’d like to read from the list by clicking on the title. I really found the Questions and Answers section fascinating and I really learned quite a bit. Other great sections were Weird Words, Turn of Phrase and Topical Words.
Last, but not least is going to be my mentioning the newsletter for World Wide Words. You can get the newsletter to this site for free in your e-mail or RSS feed.
