Optimizing Week, Day 2 – MySpace
If you didn’t know already, MySpace is the number one social networking Web site in the country. Millions of people visit it everyday. So, if you have a MySpace account and you want to get the most out of it, just check out these simple tips!
Ad Killer – We’re going to start with fixing one of the most prevalent problems on MySpace: ads. Most MySpace users will agree that the Web site is filled with ads and unnecessary items. So, if you’d like to get rid of them, I suggest the following extension. The link to install the Ad Killer style can be found here.
Toolbar – If you’d like to keep on top of your MySpace notifications, wherever you are on the Web, just use this toolbar. It allows you to automatically log in to MySpace, see your messages, comments and friend requests. It’s really quite cool.
And that’s not all it does! To really express yourself with MySpace comments and bulletins, you have to use things like bold, italics and strikeouts. But to do any of that, you have to use HTML tags, which can be a big pain. Well, from now on, you can say goodbye to that! This toolbar lets you edit comments, etc. with tactics similar to Microsoft Word.

Notifier – If you want an alternative to receiving your MySpace notifications, you’ll want to try this Greasemonkey script. Install it and then log in to MySpace. Next, open a new tab and begin browsing. If you receive a comment or a message, you will be notified in the top left corner of your screen. Cool, huh?! Rich Text Editor – If you don’t want to install the toolbar, but would still like to have access to rich text commenting, try this Greasemonkey script on for size! It allows you to make your text bold and in italics, along with allowing you to hyperlink and embed images. The link to install this script can be found here.
Profile Style Remover – All MySpace users have come across a profile with a layout you don’t particularly care for. Maybe the colors are hard to read or you just don’t like it. Whatever the case may be, this Greasemonkey script adds a small “x” in the corner of all the profiles you visit. If you click the “x,” the styles will disappear and the profile will be clean and much easier to read! The link to install this script can be found here.
Profanity Filter – A great Greasemonkey script for all Web sites is the Profanity Filter, but it is especially useful for social networking sites like MySpace. It turns any vulgar words into harmless asterisks. If you have children using MySpace, this is definitely a must have for you. The link to install this script can be found here.
Image Rollover – This script makes it so that when you roll over a thumbnail of an image, the larger image is displayed off to the left. It’s pretty cool and it saves you some time clicking around to see the large version of an image. The link to install this script can be found here.
Move Message Buttons – If you’ve ever used the MySpace Message Center, you know the message buttons are at the very bottom of the message. If you receive lengthy messages, wouldn’t it be easier to have the buttons at the top of the message? Well, if that sounds good to you, this script will do just that. MySpace 2.0 – This last style is super cool! It’s kind of like the MySpace of the future, if you will. It uses cool tabs and a nice new interface with rounded boxes. I really like it and I’m sure you will too! Check it out by looking at this screenshot:
