Merriam-Webster’s Open Dictionary
I know I’ve brought you the regular dictionary Web site before, but I ran across this one and wanted to share it with you too. This is the Open Dictionary version, which means you can submit words to it, as well as, check out other words that have been submitted by other people.
Most Recent Entries – This is where you will find the most recent words that have been added to the Open Dictionary. There is a Refresh button right next to this heading that will refresh the entries so that you are really getting the latest information. If you click an entry, it will take you to a page that lists the most recent. I thought that was nice, because you don’t have to go back and forth between the listings and the entries.
Submit an Entry – Next to this heading, you will find a Submit Form button, but you can also you use the Create an Entry link in the paragraph below. They both take you to the same place, which is a page that has all the guidelines for submitting an entry. Once you’ve read through the guidelines, click the Continue button and then fill out the form.
Browse All Entries – We’ve already discussed the Most Recent section, so your other options are Alphabetically and By Category. Choosing Alphabetically will let you choose by letter and By Category will let you select from 14 different categories.
Search – Looking for a particular word? Then search the Open Dictionary with the search field! Just type in the word you’re looking for and then click Search.
I really think it’s fun to see what words people have added. Why don’t you go take a look as well? Have fun!
