Welcome to Verbotomy, a create-a-word game that is so much fun! When I first got to this Web site, I thought it was just another dictionary site, but I browsed around and much to my delight, I discovered it was a game.
If you head over to the News/Help tab on the menu along the top of the page, you’ll find the How to Play section. Playing is pretty easy. They provide you with a definition and an image and from that, you just make up a word. Then you vote on the words that make the most sense or that you find to be the funniest. You get two votes, but you can’t vote for your own, out of fairness!
To submit entries to the game, you will need to register. Just provide a username, password and agree to their terms of service. Then when your confirmation e-mail comes, log in with your confirmation code. This took me about two minutes to do.
Now, you’re ready to play! I submitted my first word of “fakeatron.” When you do so, it checks to see if anyone else has already submitted that word, the ratio of vowels and consonants, if it can be found on Google and its uniqueness. If no one else has submitted it, you can!
When you submit your word, you can also provide the following: pronunciation, etymology and sentence. I couldn’t think of a good etymology, so I skipped that and provided only a pronunciation and sentence to use.
Underneath the image of the day, you can see the links Create and Read. Create will also take you to the page to create a word. Read will let you read the other entries for the same definition/picture you submitted. Each entry will have a link where you can vote and comment on the word you’re reading about. Remember though, you only get two votes, so use them wisely!
I hope you enjoy this witty word game as much as I already have!
