New Update: Vista SP1
I told you I would keep you updated on this and that’s exactly what I’m going to do today. Some new information has just been released about the Service Pack for Windows Vista, so if you’re a Vista user, it’s time to get excited! I know you all have been waiting a long time for this, but the wait is almost over and I promise, it will be well worth it. Microsoft has given us so many release dates for the new SP1, but they have finally given us a real update for it, so what do you say we check it out? Here we go!
Last week (around December 5, 2007), Microsoft announced that they are ready to make the first “release candidate” for the Vista SP1 available to the public. Now, if you’re not sure, a “release candidate” is a test code given out to approximately 15,000 people who have been helping with the testing process thus far. That code will be given out on Thursday of this week (December 13, 2007) so that the testers can begin their final evaluations. Senior product manager for the Windows Client team David Zipkin said, “We feel really good and we look forward to receiving feedback from our larger set of testers.” Sounds like a deal to me!
Since the initial testing began, Microsoft has made some changes to the Vista SP1 and that’s why it needs to be tested further. The biggest thing that has changed is the size of the update. When the final version is released, you won’t need to have as much free space on your computer to hold the SP1, which is always good to hear. So, even though we, as regular Vista users, can’t use the SP1 quite yet, our time is coming. It should be here in the very first part of 2008, so just keep your eyes open for it. I will continue to keep you updated as well. Hopefully this tip comes as good news to you and I hope you’re as excited as I am for the final release!
