Coming Soon: Firefox 3

Coming Soon: Firefox 3

After reading that title, I can hear all of you saying, “Wow!” In all actuality, the second version of Firefox really hasn’t been out all that long, so to think a third installment is almost complete just blows my mind. Now, just to be clear, what I’m talking about today is the Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) and it is scheduled to be released in late May 2008. How exciting! Keep reading for all the details.

Originally, the RC1 was supposed to be released in April, but several bugs were found during the final developmental stages and the Mozilla team decided to push it back. But most all of that is fixed now and they’re just working on some finishing touches. Mozilla’s VP Engineer Mike Schroepfer said they have kickoff builds planned for this coming weekend and they will then begin the Q&A cycle on Monday.

If all goes well with that and no other issues arise, Schroepfer said it will definitely be ready to ship yet this month. He also said that the RC1 will be the actual Firefox 3 if no problems occur. I don’t know about you, but that sounds very promising! The Mozilla team isn’t giving out any other details about Firefox 3 as of yet, but once the RC1 ships, they will start commenting on it. And that’s when we’ll learn about all the new features and what we can expect from the next generation of the Firefox Web browser. I’m so excited, aren’t you?!
