Resurrect Your Pages
Have you ever visited a Web site and got the infamous “Page Cannot Be Found” error? You know the site was working a couple days ago, but now, you can’t see it. Or, how about this situation? Sometimes a blog or Web site will recommend another site for you, but when you click on it, you get the same error message. What a nightmare!
So, why does that happen? Well, it’s mostly because the Web site’s server isn’t able to handle the amount of traffic the site is getting and it causes the Web site to crash. That’s especially true when a blog recommends a site and it literally becomes popular overnight. Now, just because that happens, you shouldn’t let it stop you. Today, I’m going to show you how to use the cached version of a Web page to your advantage. Let’s go!
First of all, you may ask what the cached version of a Web page is. Well, certain Web sites, such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN take snapshots of pages every so often and they save them as a backup. Using the cached version lets you see the snapshot so that you can get an idea of what a page looks like. That can be useful if the original page is unavailable because of Internet traffic or if a page has been removed by the owner. Also, often times, it can be faster to load the cached version than to open the actual Web page. Now, keep in mind that the cached version isn’t always as up to date as the actual Web page, but it usually works very well.
So, how can you access the cached version of a Web page? Well, that’s exactly what I’m going to show you today! I would like to introduce you to a Firefox extension called Resurrect Pages. I’m telling you, it does some pretty amazing things. So, without further ado, let’s start resurrecting your pages!
1.) First, you need to go here and click on the Add to Firefox button.
2.) After Firefox restarts, let’s do a little test run!
3.) Go up to the address bar and type in http://www.x.y.com. That is not a valid URL, but it will give you an idea of what Resurrect Pages can do.
4.) You will see the 404 Error, but you’ll also see a few new links. Those are all the cached versions of the page and if you click on the list, one will load.
5.) If you want to resurrect a page, simply right click and select Resurrect This Page.
6.) Next, select the cache service and presto, you have a new page!
7.) So, the next time you get the “Page Cannot Be Found” error, have no fear, Resurrect Pages is here!
