  1. I got a laptop-windows 8 and my friends kid went to a hotmail acct, and so when i got computer back i went to get on it, and her hotmail acct. pops up wanting a password, and it wont let me on my computer, what can i do?

  2. After mistakenly switched to Live account on Windows 8 (now 8.1) I got back to using a Local and have signed out of everything, un-ticked any “remember me” options, and deleted all cookies but still my Windows Live Mail client will get mail without challenging me. I don’t want any online services, I just want to be challenged when I try to download/upload mail. Any help will be appreciated.

  3. Since my previous reply there has been a further (real scary) development. Using a completely different computer, with Internet Explorer I logged onto Windows Live and changed my password. Now here’s the scary bit. Windows Live Mail client on the other machine, on a local account, downloaded my emails WITHOUT ASKING FOR THE NEW PASSWORD?!? Help?

    1. RESOLVED:I clicked on the “Sign in to Windows Live” button in the email client and there it was! The “remember me” box was ticked and as I entered first letter of my email address, it auto-filled the rest of my address and it also filled the password box. The only possible explanation I can think of is that the Live Mail client handles the mail logon locally and then, because it could access my mail without knowing the new password, it must use a certificate or similar to authenticate with my online mail account. Obviously we cannot change the client to Microsoft “handshake” but at least now it has stopped remembering my password on local and someone would have to know my password in order to use the mail client. Thanks for this forum, Ian 🙂
