Help! My Android Tablet Has No Instructions

Vicki from Decatur, Alabama writes “I have an Android tablet and there are no instructions with it.  I went to the company’s web page and they don’t have anything other than a small manual showing which button to use. Can you help me as to where I find instructions or some way to get something to show me how to use this thing?  Thanks for looking into this for us, I love your site and look forward to it every day.”

Hi, Vicki. Thanks for the great question and the kind words about the newsletter.  I think that I speak for the other writers in the newsletter when I say that we try our best to make it both informative and entertaining.

I’ll be happy to help you with your question to the best of my ability.  Unfortunately, you didn’t say which tablet you have, so I won’t be able to point you to a specific manual for your device, but I do have some suggestions.

First off, let me say (in case you didn’t realize this) that Android isn’t a type of tablet, it’s an operating system for mobile devices that was created by Google, similar to Apple’s IOS and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile.

Basic operation of your Android tablet will be the same as it would be for an Android smart phone.  As a matter of fact, when you look at your tablet’s home screen, it looks just like an Android smart phone’s home screen, minus the phone.

Basically, you tap on the icon or app that you want to use and it opens.

As far as finding instructions for your specific device, I could recommend looking up your device manufacturer’s (Samsung, Nokia, etc.) website and your tablet’s model number to find instructions for that model.  Another way, if your device has network access, look up your provider’s website and search for device tutorials.

I hope that this helps!

  1. The answer to Vici, re: instructions for her android tablet. My tablet did not have instructions, but I clicked on the help button and there was the whole instrctions document about my tablet. Also, your answer was it is like your smart phone, What If You Don’t Have a Smart Phone, what then! Not all people have the latest gagets, etc. smart phones and you should not assume that. I also learned how to use my tablet from watching the home shopping channels when they are trying to sell tablets. They demonostrate about 45 minutes and it is very educational.

  2. Thanks for this one – I know I have a “blonde moment” every now and then and this one helped. There are times that some “words” describing what or how we do things need a Websters Dictionary! So is there a “automated systems dictionary?”
