Constructor – Build And Animate Models

Constructor from Sodaplay is a really neat Java application that lets you construct interactive creations or models.

To start, you click the launch button and let the Java application run. I have my security settings set up so I have to approve these sort of applications. Once that’s done and the program launches, you’ll be faced with a blank canvas.

You begin creating by clicking an area of the screen, this will create a dot. Now, click another area and a line will appear between the two dots. The dots serve as joints for some of the movement options. When you animate the model you’ve created, you could make it walk, climb, wriggle, jiggle, or become a writhing heap. I’ve mostly managed to make writhing heaps because I’m not very good at this, but I had a blast creating them!

The application gives you three sections of tools: Select/Move – lets you select parts of the model or the whole things and move it, Construct – this is the tab where you’ll do your building, Delete – this is where you can remove bits of your model line by line.

In order to save your work, you need to register for an account. You can do that from the page you launched the Java application from. You can also view other constructed models here or by clicking Play at the top of the page.

This was a lot of fun, but  could use instructions.  Check it out today and try your hand at constructing and animating your own models!
