Pandora, the popular Internet radio service, is putting a cap on how many hours a month of free music users can listen to on their mobile devices.
Mobile users will now be limited to 40 hours in a month. Pandora’s founder Tim Westergren said in a blog post that the move was necessary due to escalating costs. He said the company’s costs for music have increased 25% over the past three years and are scheduled to go up an additional 16% over the next two.
If listeners go over the limit, they can pay 99 cents for unlimited listening for the remainder of the month or subscribe to the company’s paid service Pandora One.
