I used to have two little icons that looked like displays on my taskbar to indicate a connection to the Internet. I lost them. How do I get them back?
Answer:
Your networking notification icon may be hidden. The easiest way to unhide the notification is to press the up arrow next to your notification icons on the right of the task bar and click customize.

Locate the Network icon in the list and click the drop-down box and select “Show icons and notifications” then click OK. Your network icon should now be back.
It the icon still does not appear, it may be in the extended list and you’ll need to press the up arrow on the right of the task bar and hold the left mouse button down on the icon to drag it to your list of icons next to the clock on the task bar.

This is a really good tip, but what do you do when the icon is “not” beside the word “Network” and the option “show” is already selected.
Solution: Go to task manager, shut down “explorer.exe”, go to top under “File” and select “New Task” and type in “explorer.exe”, then close task manager and reboot and the network icon will be back.
This tip may be useful from those with Windows 7 or 8; I have Windows Vista which has no such arrow described. Have only been able to restore the icon by rebooting computer (laptop)
