Question: I don’t like the way that replies back and forth about the same subject all bunch together into one message in Gmail. Is there a way to make the messages separate?
Answer: I’m with you on this one. I dislike the groupings of messages in an inbox. Fortunately, there is a quick fix. Find that little gear symbol on the far right of your inbox and click Settings from the drop-down menu.

Under Settings, click the tab for General.

Scroll about half-way down the page until you find “Conversation View.” Click “Conversation View Off.”

Then go to the very bottom of the page and save changes.
Hope that helps.

does this work for Yahoo and Aol also?
Hi Cynthia,
Thanks for this tip. I prefer this grouping of mails for certain mails that I deem to be important, but not to the most. I wish, google gives the option to enable this facility on individual mails, instead of this ‘All or Nothing’basis. In fact , on any day, I prefer a few mail-based essential features than inbox-based numerous features.
Hi Cynthia, I don’t like the grouping of emails either. Your tip worked on my computer with Windows XP but not on laptop using Windows 7.
Great tip. This drove me nuts and I could not be bothered to search for the solution, which is pure laziness. Have made the change. Thanks
Glad I came upon the question. Made the change quickly and appreciate
the solution.
Saved the day… i hated that conversation view.. didn’t know whether i was reading a new email or an old one..
