I have another question regarding desktop pictures. I receive emails with Microsoft PowerPoint slide show attachments containing pictures I want to use for desktop backgrounds on my PC. How can I capture pictures separately from PowerPoint?
Michele, it’s pretty easy. Just select the object you want with your cursor:

Right-click on the image and choose Save as Picture from the drop-down menu.

Then select the file format in which you wish to save the image.

Then select Save.
I tested this process with PowerPoint 2013 on Windows 8 and PowerPoint 2007 on Windows 7 and it worked perfectly. Some people say the process doesn’t work for them. It might be because they’re using PowerPoint Viewer and not PowerPoint to look at the presentation. If you can’t find the save option, I’d suggest using the Print Screen key on your keyboard to grab the entire screen and then just crop out what you wish to save in Paint or another photo editing program. Here’s a link to an article that explains the process.

Does not work. The right click screen you describe does not come up.
Save as Picture does not come up. What comes up on right clicking are the following:
Next
Previous
Go To Slide
Pointer Options
Help
End Show
Please republish with correct answer.
Tested this in PowerPoint 2013 on Windows 8 and PowerPoint 2007 on Windows 7 and it worked perfectly. This is also Microsoft’s suggested solution. But if you don’t get the save option, I’d suggest using the Print Screen key to do a screen grab and then cropping out the image you want.
