Microsoft: Give Outlook.com A Chance, You’ll Love It

Microsoft is urging users whose Hotmail accounts were recently switched to Outlook.com to give the mail service a chance. Microsoft has recently completed switching 300 million active Hotmail accounts to Outlook.com. The switch involved migrating 150 petabytes of e-mail in 6 weeks (That’s 1 million gigabytes).

The switch brings the number of active Outlook.com accounts to over 400 million. Not all users have been happy with the switch and Microsoft acknowledged the complaints in a blog post, but insisted that once users become familiar with Outlook.com, they will love it.

“Of course, whenever a widely-used consumer service makes any substantial change, there will always be some folks that don’t like it, and that shows up in the feedback, too. It’s gratifying in a sense because it means those customers loved the previous set of changes we made. With a communication service that is constantly evolving, we try to strike the right balance between bringing out major improvements and keeping true to what our customers love. Our belief is that as people start using the new experience, they will come to love it even more than they loved Hotmail.”

The company touted the clean new look for Outlook.com, comparing the look of Hotmail.com:

With Outlook.com’s interface:

Microsoft points out that content is now front and center and that the large display ads are gone, and they say ” entire visual aesthetic is designed to be fast and intuitive.”

The post reminds users that they don’t have to change their e-mail address, Hotmail address will remain valid and never need change. There is also no need to change settings on phones or devices.

Microsoft was anxious to point out upgrades to their mail services saying the it’s now easier to send messages from other e-mail address and attach photos and files from a SkyDrive Account.

Microsoft did not address the complaints of lost contacts and mail that many users reported during the transition. If you have any questions about the new Outlook.com, ask us here at this link. We’ll do our best to help you out.

  1. Nice article. Personally I like outlook.com much better than the old hotmail, especially the clean look. Though I will admit I haven’t used hotmail for my regular mail service in many, many years. In fact I let my original id on hotmail expire and about 3 years ago when I needed a throw away e-mail address for some e-Mail client testing I was doing I setup one on hotmail, then only checked it when I had actually sent a test to it. Good thing too because the id I setup was a reused ID and got tons of spam as soon as I opened it. In fact it actually still got some legitimate messages intended for the previous owner.

  2. I want to know how to stop the conversations which is HORRIBLE AND DISGUSTING but still keep the menu drop down that allows you to print the message, find the source of the message. They dropped some of my mail.
They never gave instructions. It is Nothing like the original Outlook in office. Windows Live was much better. They set this up for Windows 8 and smart phones but we don’t all have them. Microsoft told me so after I wrote them a letter. I still have XP and I LOVE it. I have a flip phone that I turn on only when I need to. So in order words they are discriminating against the rest of us to get the smart phone users pleasure.
