Typing Is Slow In MS Word

Hi Steve, I am reading your solutions for more than one year. I’ve a problem. When I type in MS word the character in displayed one by one. I mean the characters are displayed very slow. what may be the reason and it solution. Thanks.

There’s more than one thing that could be responsible for the problem. But I do have a handy free tool provided by Microsoft that can help with many Office issues.

Start by clicking on Control Panel

Then select Programs.

Now choose Programs and Features.

You’ll get a window with a long list of programs. Select Word and then choose Change from the choices at the top.

A window will pop up offering the choices of Add/Remove Features, Repair, Remove or Enter Product Key.  Select Repair. You can then choose Quick Repair or Online Repair.

You may need to restart your computer after the repairs are complete.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, check both your graphics and your printer drivers to make sure they are up to date. You can usually go to the manufacturer’s website to obtain the latest drivers. If that still doesn’t help, you may have to consider re-installing Word.

Hope this helps.

  1. Try this – works especially well on Office 2013’s cursor animation which slows typing down considerably. You need to put animations inside application off, like this: Choose Start, right-click Computer and go to Properties > Advanced system settings. In Performance (under Advanced), click Settings > Visual Effects. Select ‘Custom’ and remove the check at ‘Animate controls and elements inside windows’.

    1. Hi Cornelis, although this setting is available too on the newly released Windows 10, switching it off doesn’t seem to have any influence at all on MS Word 2013.

Any idea what else could be there?

  2. Dear Steve,

Nice reply to slow typing. I have another kind problem when I copy and paste a document on MS word. I use Word 2003. Whenever I copy and paste a document on MS word, the document appears very bold and take the entire screen length..What could be the problem.

    Thanks and regards,

  3. So I noticed that when I work on MS word docs that are saved in a OneDrive folder (as opposed to locally on my computer) it has a higher incidence of type lag. When I take the same document and move it to a local folder the lag disappears.

    1. That’s probably your internet that’s doing it because as you should know, you need an internet connection to access OneDrive.
