I’ve been daydreaming about moving a lot lately. My roommate and I are in the process of looking for a new place to live, and getting all our ducks in a row to make it go smoothly when everything comes together.
One of the things that we’ve been doing in preparation of the eventual move is going through our belongings and starting to pare things down. (Mostly books – we own oh-so-many books!)
While doing that we’ve been packing things that we want to keep, but don’t need handy. (This has also mostly been books.) So I’ve been looking to find good moving/packing tips all over the web.
On BuzzFeed I found this awesome list of moving tips, 33 tips to be exact, that will help make a move easier.
My favorite was packing stemware in clean socks! It think that’s brilliant – you can tuck two socks inside the glass and then slide the glass into a sock! And then you don’t have to pack socks! And this is a great way to use mismatched socks too.
My next favorite was the simple suggestion of putting a cotton ball or cotton pad inside makeup compacts to keep them from breaking. When I originally moved to Toledo that was a huge issue. All my makeup in compacts got broken in the move. This is great for packing your cosmetics for travel too.
Another great tip was to go around to your local liquor stores and ask for beer boxes to pack books in! And they even offer several different styles of labeling systems to help you keep everything organized.
