Windows 8.1 Reading List: Save Websites To Read Later

Microsoft is pretty excited about the new Reading List App for 8.1  The app allows you to save web content and content from other apps to read later. This app comes as part of the Windows 8.1 update.

Here’s how it works, if you’re reading something you’d like to share or read more of later you can save it for reading by simply swiping to the share charm. You can save content from websites you’re visiting or from other apps. This feature works with Internet Explorer 11 and with many Windows Apps.

The bookmarks is Reading List will stay updated from one device to another. So you can bookmark it at work and then read it on your home computer later.

Bookmarks will take you back to the original source. All you need to do is tap on the article and Reading List will snap to the side and bring up the website or the content from the app you wanted to save.

Reading List is part of the free Windows 8.1 upgrade.

  1. Am I missing something? How is this different than creating a “Favorite” in IE? Other than using a metro applet that wastes a lot of screen space for bloated presentation of the name and image rather than just showing the Favorite text?

Is there an option to customize the label that is saved, or is it simply capturing the web page title?

Can it be installed on Win 8. I’m going to search the MS store (if I can remember how).

    1. This app isn’t intended to make a favorite out of webpage where you would go back to a homepage, but to collect articles you want to read later and organize them. It is only for 8.1. I’ve tried it out ad I don’t find it bloated. I would suggest giving it a try. It is free and if you don’t like it, you can always uninstall it.
