Help! Can’t Access Windows App Store

I have Windows 8 Pro but I can not access the Store. I have searched high and low. It appears all my updates are current. My store tile is color green and has 17 in lower right corner. I ran windows compatibility and all seems in order. Any suggestions or help?  

Uh oh, John. That is a problem. You have 17 uninstalled app updates and some of those could be important. Also without access to the store, you can’t upgrade to Windows 8.1

First, try typing Store in the Search Charm and see if it works from there.

If it won’t, Microsoft has an app troubleshooter available and I’d suggest downloading and running it. Click here to download.

Hopefully that will address your issues. It’s very important for Windows 8 users to check the app store for updates and install the needed ones on  a regular basis.

  1. When I click on the green “Store” square it goes full screen for a second and then goes back to the start screen. I have downloaded Windows 8.1 and it updated. That’s when this problem started.

    I downloaded that troubleshooter but it won’t run.
    It’s a cab file – apps_diagcab
    Now what do I do?

    1. Ray! I have had exactly the same problem for a couple of weeks now and have been really frustrated. I tried every possible solution and fix that I could find.

      Today I finally found the solution!!!

      You may use the powershell command to reregister the Windows Store.

      Open the command prompt with admin privileges, and type the following command:
      powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRootWinStoreAppxManifest.xml

      When you run the command a little green box will pop up in the command window and then vanish (not giving you any hint of what it did, if it finished or even worked)

      I ran the command saw some stuff happen then I went to this link:

      Pressed the:
      Get the free update button

      And now the store launched like it should and I could start updating. Hope this works for you aswell.

      1. This did not help me though.
        I did run CMD as administrator and ran the command but RED text came instead of Green and it said:

        Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failure with HRESULT: 0x80073CF6, package could not be registered.

        it said alot more but im to lazy to write it down, could not copy it as i see…

  2. Hi, I’m trying to get into my account in app store and I keep pressing the account pictures and nothing’s happening.
