Question: I’ve heard the term Haswell chip when it refers to computers. What does it mean?
Haswell is a name for a particular microarchitecture for computer chips developed by Intel. CPUs built with Haswell were announced in the summer of 2013. They perform better than previous chips and use significantly less power. Sony says a Windows 8 tablet/laptop powered by Haswell will last for 15 hours.
Haswell also offers superior graphic performance and supports 4K video playback. Haswell chips will also run at lower temperatures and that allows tablets can become even thinner. While offering significant improvements for mobile devices, Haswell only offers slight improvements over its predecessor Ivy Bridge for desktop computing and it is pretty expensive, costing a $100 more than Ivy Bridge.

I bought a HP envy with an i5 Haswell. IMPRESSIVE gain in battery life, and runs a lot cooler! It generates little heat. Very impressive graphics performance. The battery life gain alone makes the higher price worth the investment.
