TuneIn: Listen To Thousands Of Radio Stations Free

TuneIn Radio is one of the most popular radio apps around, but I have to say that I think it looks especially nice on Windows 8. You can complain about the relative scarcity of apps for Windows 8, but you can’t say that the apps they have aren’t pretty.

TuneIn is a free app that puts thousands of radio stations all over the world at your fingertips. As with any other Windows 8 App, you find it in the Windows App store.

Since it’s free, just click or tap Install to download.

When you launch the app, you’ll see the option to browse by local radio, music, sports, news, talk, location, language or podcasts.

Under local I see a variety of FM stations in my area.

I can also scroll through AM stations.

And see Internet only offerings including local police and fire scanners.

Select music and you’ll find a wide variety of genres to browse from popular to hip hop to classical to polka.  When you choose a genre, you’ll see local stations that play the music and then dozens of other stations to select from.  When I selected Jazz I found stations from Toronto to The Netherlands.

Under sports, you should be able to find coverage for almost any team you follow from sources like ESPN Radio, the BBC and hundreds of local stations.

There are a whole lot of options under news and talk that go beyond the typical offerings of talk radio. I’m really looking forward to exploring more of them. Searching by location lets you find radio stations close to home or anywhere in the world.

I zeroed in on the UK and found dozens of cities to choose from.

I chose a BBC station and the current program was displayed along with suggestions for similar stations.

You can add favorite stations to your presets.

You can also pin your favorite station to your start menu, so it’s accessible easily with one click or tap. The snap function of Windows 8 let’s you move TuneIn off to one side while you use another program.

All in all, a really fun app to explore music close to home and around the world. Best of all, it’s free.
