You Could Soon Be Making Your Own Coke At Home

Here’s a kitchen gadget I can get behind: a machine that lets you make your own make your own Coca-Cola at home in single servings. It’s a little like having a fountain Coke machine in your kitchen, but without the hassle of setting up restaurant equipment at home. I worked in a carryout with a Coke machine in college and changing out the co2 canisters and syrup containers on those babies is a nightmare. Not to mention cleaning out the nozzles.

Now I know the Soda Stream allows people to carbonate their own drinks at home, but you can’t make a Coke or a Pepsi with one. Now a deal between the Coca Cola Company and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (the company behind the Keurig coffeemaker) will lead to the development of the Keurig Cold beverage system.

Coke is purchasing a 10% share in GMRC and paying 1.25 billion dollars for that stake. According to the company, the new machine will be a single-serve pod-based system like the Keurig coffeemakers.

It will offer ” consumers an innovative, convenient way to freshly prepare their favorite cold beverages at the push of a button,” said Brian P. Kelley  President and CEO of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

The system will use specially formulated single-serving pods to dispense soda, flavored waters, sports drinks and tea. The partnership with Coke means that drinks like Coke, Sprite., Fuze tea and Minute Maid should be available for the system.

The Kuerig Cold is expected to be available to consumers in 2015.
