There’s a great shortcut for those of you with Windows 7 and Vista laptops. Press the Windows Key + X and you’ll get a dashboard that lets you monitor and control key functions on your laptop.
Here’s what it looks like.

You can adjust brightness and sound with slider bars.

Check the status of your battery…

and turn wireless on or off and monitor your connection.

You can also connect to an external display and control that display, plus sync your settings all from one handy control panel.

Pressing Win + X in Windows 8.1 will bring up a version of the Start Menu, which includes the option of going to the Mobility Center.

It looks pretty much the same as it does in 7, but you do have an option for Presentation Settings.

If you have a Windows 7 laptop, give this shortcut a try.

Press Win + X To Monitor Your Laptop, You forgot to mention that it also works in windows Vista.
Thank you for all your hard works and information that you supply us.
I have Win7. Didn’t work. Pressing Windows+X keys brought up Start Menu when the keys were released. Same as Win key only.
Running Win Home Premium 7 64bit – the only thing it did was close the tip email. Bummer.
