It’s been revealed that a cyberattack against banking giant JPMorgan Chase hit 76 million households this summer along with 7 million small businesses. The company revealed those numbers in a filing with the Security and Exchange Commission.
That’s pretty bad news considering that JPMorgan is the largest bank in the United States. What kind of information would hackers have access to? Customer’s bank accounts, credit card accounts and home address. Thought the bank says Social Security numbers and passwords were not affected.
Reports say the hackers learned what types of applications are in use on the bank’s computers and went looking for potential flaws in those programs that allowed them attack. They company says they haven’t yet seen any evidence of fraud associated with this breach and that customers are not responsible for any fraudulent activity.
As always, it’s a good idea to monitor your bank and credit card statements for any unusual or unauthorized activity.
