KC, one of my favorite things about a smartphone or tablet is that they work as portable document scanner in a pinch. The first thing you’ll need to do is head over to the Google Play Store and search for scanner apps. You’ll see options for both free and paid versions of scanning apps.
You can tap on the app to learn more about it and to read the reviews. I find customer reviews very helpful, especially if I want to know how that particular app works well with my model of phone.
I use CamScanner and really like it. It has some pretty good reviews, but no app is perfect for every device. CamScanner works with Android 2.3 and up, so you should be able to use it on your phone.
This app has a pretty user-friendly interface. You simply put the document flat in good light and use your camera to take a photo. All scanner apps use your phone’s camera to take the photo. On CamScanner, you have the option to set the document up as a batch or single scan before you start the scan. Simply tap the camera icon to start the scan.
Tapping the Settings icon will give you options to have an on-screen grid, adjust the flash and change the orientation of the image.
Once you take the image, you can choose to save or delete it.
You’ll then have options to crop and straighten your scan. Once you are happy with it, just hit the check mark to accept.
You can then make adjustments to color and lighting if needed.
Once the image is saved, you then have the option to share it or open it as a PDF.
If you needed to print this document, you can transfer it to a PC with a printer via e-mail, a cloud service 0r by plugging in your phone or you can print directly from the phone if you have a printing app for a wireless printer installed on the phone.
