Pinterest is great for finding unique tips and tricks, but organizing your favorites isn’t always so easy. While Pinterest finally created a way for you to see just the boards you’ve favorited, they’re all still just lumped together in one big blob. What if you could see just your favorites on a certain topic? What if you only wanted to see specific pins? With these organizational Pinterest tips, you finally can.
Create Bookmarks In Your Browser
The easiest way to organize your Pinterest favorites is bookmarking. Start by opening one of your favorite boards on Pinterest. Next, bookmark it using your browser’s bookmark/favorite method. For exact steps for your browser, see the following links:
Add bookmarks for all your favorites and then create folders in your browser’s bookmark/favorite manager. Move your bookmarked boards into the appropriate folders. Now, all your favorite boards are organized by category.
Use Secret Boards
If you just want to save favorite pins instead of the entire boards, use Pinterest’s secret boards instead. You can have a total of 500 boards, including secret boards, per account. To create a secret board, open your profile by clicking your name at the top of the Pinterest screen.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Create Secret Board.
Name your board and when you find new pins you’d like to favorite instead of an entire board, simply add them to your secret board. This is ideal for gift shopping or craft ideas you don’t want to share publicly.
Move any pins from existing boards or favorited boards to your secret boards by hovering your mouse over the pin you want to move. Click the pencil icon at the top right of the pin.
Select the board you want to move the pin to under Boards. Click Save Changes to move the pin.
Create Your Own Boards
If you don’t mind sharing your favorites publicly, create your own boards. The key is to ensure each board has a narrow category. For instance, instead of just crafts, you might call one board bead crafts and another sewing crafts. The narrower the focus, the easier it is to find what you’re looking for later. To create a new board, open your profile and click Create New Board.
Move any existing pins to the newly created boards to better organize them.
Create A Bookmark Document
If you want to use an old school method, create a document filled with links to your favorite boards and pins. The easiest options for this are OpenOffice.org, Google Docs (online based) and WordPad since they’re all free and allow you to add clickable links. If you have numerous favorite boards, consider creating a spreadsheet instead. Create a new tab for each category of board. Next, type the name of each board and hyperlink the name to the board’s URL. Find the URL by opening the board and copying the URL to your spreadsheet. For even more organization, type notes about each board beside the board’s name.
Use An Online Bookmarking Tool
Bookmarking in your browser is ideal until you’re on a different computer. Online bookmarking tools let you access your bookmarks from anywhere you have Internet access. Organize your bookmarks in your favorite online tool by category. Simply log in to the site wherever you are and easily find your favorite boards. Follow Boards Instead Of Users
Organization quickly gets out of control when you start following users instead of boards. Now that Pinterest lets you view just the boards you follow, you don’t have to dig through a user’s entire collection of boards to find what you want. Clean up your favorites by finding just the boards you like and favoriting them instead. While the user will still show up under Pinners, you can click Boards and see just your favorite boards.
