I first learned about a very cool site called Canva, the way I often do, by reading about it in Amanda’s Coolsites. Amanda explained how to sign up and did a brief tour of the site.
But after checking out the site, I decided to go more in depth to help you explore this awesome free tool!
When you arrive at Canva.com, you’ll have the option of designing a new e-mail header, social media post, presentation, poster, Facebook cover, Facebook post, Instagram post, blog graphic, document, card, Twitter post, invitation, business card, album cover, Twitter header, Pinterest post, real estate flyer, Google+ cover, Kindle cover, photo collage, Facebook ad, Facebook App image or use custom dimensions needed for your specific project.
Let’s get started. I would like to say that while Canva is free to use and there are many free images and graphics to use from, there are some premium images that have a price. The price is noted next to the graphic when you hover over it. And you can always upload your own images.
Let’s start by making a poster.
There’s only one free layout available for posters and it’s a little boring.
So let’s put together our own layout. Click on background.
You can pick a solid color.
Or choose the + sign to make a custom color.
You can also choose from a number of free designs or select one of the paid images.
Choose Text to select text boxes and text.
You have a variety of free options to choose from.
Just click an object to add it to the sign.
Click on the object to grab and move easily.
Grab the corner and click to re-size.
Double-click on the text to type in the box.
Highlight the text to change the font, size and color.
To add graphics, just click the search symbol.
You can choose from lines, banners, speech bubbles, shapes and many other design elements or you can search for images.
Choose upload to upload your own images.
You can choose between uploading your own images or adding Facebook photos.
Once the image is uploaded, you can drag it to the project.
Here’s the sign I was able to put together in about 5 minutes. I can download and save the project or share it with others.
