Where Can I Find Hashtags?

Maybe in the article you wrote on hashtags you could also indicate how to find a hashtag, that is, where people post. I’d like to follow some conversations, but don’t know how to find hashtags for subjects in which I am interested, for example, science, not TV or entertainment.

Kathy, the sites most often associated with Hashtags are Twitter and Instagram and to a lesser degree Facebook. All of these social media sites will feature trending hashtags which are often related to entertainment or news.

Here’s how to put a science-related hashtag into action. I’ll go to Twitter and use the hashtag #cometlovejoy to look for information on the comet that passed close to the earth recently.

 

 

 

That search will return results with the #cometlovejoy hashtag.

 

Many of the results will contain links. I can click on the link to see articles about the comet.

To look beyond the latest news, TV show or sporting event,  I would suggest you check out hashtags.org. 

This site organizes hashtags from all around the world.  There’s a featured article that spotlights the big hashtag of the day. On the day of this writing, it was a blizzard hitting the East Coast of the U.S.

You’ll also find a list of trending hashtags of the moment.

And a list of popular hashtags in business, tech and the environment.

The featured resources section can help you understand a little more about hashtags and how they work.

You could also check out hashtagify.me. 

You can enter any tag in the search box.

You’ll see the most popular hashtags associated with that term and some current tweets.

A great way to find hashtags for science would be to search the #science hashtag and see what other hashtags are included in posts tagged #science. This would also give you an idea of who you might wish to follow on social media.
